Finding Other Ways to Give: Nicole Biller's Awareness Story
In memory of her cousin, Rachel Tobias, and the Rachel Tobias Young Investigator Grant, Nicole Biller has collected over $3000 for CRPS. Here are some of the ways that Nicole has raised funds and awareness of CRPS.
- Nicole started a club about three years ago at her high school, Cooper City High School in Florida, that has grown to more than 300 members. The club collects money through drives for Beanie Babies, Restaurant Nights, Mini-concerts, Surf T-shirt Sales, Lollipop sales, and even a Pie-A-Teacher in the Face Day!
- The goal of the club has been not only to raise funds, but also to raise awareness of this devastating syndrome.
At every event, they have a speaker talk on CRPS as well as written information on the syndrome.
- During her Student Exchange experience in Australia, Nicole made a speech at her local high school on CRPS and sold T-shirts.
- She has also competed with an Original Oration Speech focusing on CRPS in National Debate Tournaments, and will be competing in February 2008 at the Harvard University Debate tournament with this speech.
According to Nicole, "I recently connected with local RSD-afflicted Rachel Robinson through my aunt, provided her with a support group, and am currently planning a movie night with her and my board members."
